Hello Everest News, Namaste
from Kathmandu. This is Marty Schmidt reporting in. I thought you would
like to know what I just did on Cho Oyu, 2004. On the 24th of Sept, 2004 I
topped out on the summit with my client, Tom Cooney, from Oregon. We did not
use sherpas or O2 at all. Completely unsupported. One the way day we ended up
rescuing a man from camp II, taking 6 hours to camp I, having to build a make
shift sled and help get him to the top of the serac at 6,700 meters, where I
ended up lowering him 60 meters.
Then with 20 hours of rest at
ABC, I turned around for a 13 hour push to the summit, with no support, no O2
and not using any fixed lines. I carried my skis the whole way and skied from
the summit to the bottom of the snow at camp I in 3 hours.
Greetings from New Zealand,
Home Sweet Home. Marty
