Update 5/08/2004: Alone at ABC
"I think I am the only person at ABC right
now," TjW. Most climbers [from other teams] have gone up the North Col or are
at Chinese base camp or lower. Some climbers have gone back to KTM.
We are re-installing camp 2 and installing camp
3. The ropes to high camp will be completed soon. It is sunny. We are on the
move...
As you are probably beginning to figure out,
numerous people are looking for Sandy this year on Everest.
We are pledged to our mission. It will
not be easy.
The move up this week by the
three climbers with a metal detector who
were observed up near the location of George Mallory's body was bold. Our climbers will not go up without camps and ropes.
You might have noticed we have have changed our base
name from "Mallory
and Irvine The Final Chapter: The retrieval of the camera" to "Mallory and
Irvine: The Final Chapter". One of our old advisors was focused on a camera,
the more we study this issue, the more we realize that George Mallory and Sandy Irvine were not about a
camera, but about being Fearless on Everest, as Julie wrote so well in her
excellent book. George and Sandy went for it. They gave it their all.
More to follow on our thoughts in the coming days...
We have come to Mount Everest in search of an answer.
