Dispatch 4: News of April 12, 2004 Hello, we are still in Nyalam… the place is still as desolate…

Yesterday, Jean-Christophe went walking above Nyalam for some physical activity while acclimating himself.  His spirits were good, good feelings!

For my part, I did not move from our quarters… I was really not in good spirits... this year, I am not handling the separation from my children Tom and Jeremy well, I miss them and I am not motivated for this trip..., I am here to carry out the photo and video reporting... to work.

Today my spirits are about the same as yesterday… meaning not too good…, along with Jean-Christophe we went for a three hour walk today.

Not feeling very well inside my head, my acclimation is not going very well… me, who last year “galloped” on the Baltoro glacier in Pakistan to rejoin the Broad Peak base camp at 16,250 feet altitude, today I am struggling to breathe at 12,350 feet.  I have a headache and don’t feel well.  Luckily for Jean-Christophe, he is feeling otherwise, and is in good form.  

Furthermore, the situation in Katmandu is really not good, the conflicts are multiplying and the strikes are continuing with the consequence of more delays, more delays, more delays… the strike should end April 13, but in fact it is continuing until April 16… we spoke with the agency yesterday by telephone, they told us that our staff and equipment were flying by helicopter today to the border with Tibet, along with other baggage for groups that are going to Everest and to Cho-Oyu, and who are here in Nyalam in the same situation as we are.

This solution, it seems, will not be costly…., I hope, since I told the agency that we don’t have any more "money” … we have not stopped stretching what we have for this and that since we arrived and it is beginning to amount to a great deal extra.

I think that tomorrow, April 13, we will go sleep in Tingri at 13,975 feet altitude by crossing the Lalung La pass at 17,875 feet altitude by Jeep before going back down to Tingri.  On the 14th, we are supposed to continue our trip all the way to Karta, and on the 15th begin the infamous trekking to the base camp of Makalu.

I am thinking about my return… alone… with the current conflicts in Katmandu, the strikes, etc… this trip is really cool!  Great …

Bonjour, Nous sommes toujours à Nyalam…l’endroit est toujours aussi désolant…

Hier Jean-Christophe est allé marcher au-dessus de Nyalam pour bouger physiquement tout en s’acclimatant. Son feeling était bon, des bonnes sensations !

De mon côté, je n’ai pas bougé du gîte… je n’avais vraiment pas le moral…je vis mal cette année la séparation avec mes enfants Tom et Jérémi, ils me manquent et je n’ai pas de motivation sur ce voyage…, je viens pour réaliser le reportage photos et vidéo…pour travailler.

Aujourd’hui, le moral est à peu près comme hier… donc pas terrible…, avec Jean-Christophe nous sommes allés marcher trois heures aujourd’hui.

N’étant pas bien dans ma tête mon acclimatation ne se passe pas très bien…moi qui « galopais » l’année dernière sur le glacier du Baltoro au Pakistan  pour rejoindre le camp de base du Broad Peak à 5000 mètres d’altitude aujourd’hui à 3800 mètres je souffle, j’ai mal à la tête et je n’ai pas un bon feeling. Heureusement pour Jean-Christophe il en est autrement, il est en forme.

De plus la situation est vraiment pas terrible sur Katmandou, les conflits se multiplient et les grèves se prolongent avec pour conséquence du retard, du retard et du retard… la grève devait prendre fin le 13 avril mais en fait elle se poursuit encore jusqu’au 16 avril….nous avons eu l’agence aujourd’hui au téléphone, elle nous a dit que notre matériel et le staff volait en hélicoptère aujourd’hui jusqu’à la frontière du Tibet avec, je pense, d’autres bagages pour les groupes qui vont à l’Everest et au Cho-Oyu et qui sont ici à Nyalam dans la même situation que nous.

Cette solution, paraît t’il, ne sera pas coûteuse…., j’espère car j’ai prévenu l’agence que nous n’avions plus de « Money »…nous n’arrêtons pas de rallonger pour ceci et pour cela depuis notre arrivée et cela commence à faire beaucoup d’argent en plus.

Je pense que demain 13 avril nous irons dormir à Tingri à 4300 mètres d’altitude en passant le col Lalung La à 5050 mètres d’altitude en jeep avant de redescendre sur Tingri. Le 14, nous devrions poursuivre notre route jusqu’à Karta et le 15 démarrer ce fameux trekking pour le camp de base du Makalu.

Je pense à mon retour…seule…avec les conflits actuels sur Katmandou, les grèves, etc…ce voyage est  sympathique ! génial….
