Italian expedition Everest/K2 2004 expedition

As a consequence to respiratory problems K2 2004 mountaineer Adam Holzknecht from Sudtirol was forced to start his way back to Italy.

Yesterday, Adam had reached the intermediary camp, 5800m between base camp and advanced base camp. During the night time he had started coughing and having breathing difficulties. In the morning he decided to go back to base camp.

"Adam was with me at the intermediary camp"- said Massimo Cappon, K2 2004 journalist - "he spent an awful night and this morning finally decided to go back to base camp. "

In agreement with the expedition medical doctor, the expedition leader Da Polenza and his representative at the Everest expedition, Soro Dorotei, at 11 30, Adam left base camp  escorted by his friend Hubert Moroder, went back  by jeep to Tingri which is located 2000m below. Tomorrow, from Tingri, he will proceed onwards towards the Tibetan- Nepali  frontier, and then to Kathmandu to catch the airplane to Italy.
