Mondinelli, Compagnoni at the Advanced Base Camp
“Everest-K2, 50 years later” expedition base camp is now starting being
operative and functioning. The photoelectric plant is fully working, supplying
2 kilowatts i.e the necessary quantity of energy for everyday life as well as
for the carrying out of ordinary communication actions and for the running of
scientific equipment.

Yesterday,
a snow blizzard and strong winds caused a sudden and astonishing change in the
landscape, which didn’t stop the sending of the first yak convoy to the
Advanced Base Camp. Also Soro Dorotei, Everest expedition leader, Silvio
Mondinelli, Michele Compagnoni went up to ABC. The three stayed for the first
night at the intermediate base camp, together with the porters, in order to be
able reaching today 6400 m. quota, on a first reconnaissance.
Researchers started performing new physiology and spirometry tests on
mountaineers. They are using to reach this aim sophisticated T-shirts hi-tech,
American production, which will allow for the monitoring of all physiological
parameters within 24 hours. Also four Tibetan mountaineers joined the group
accepting to be tested. Tomorrow other 10 yaks will be sent to the Advanced
Base Camp, and 7 more mountaineers will be arriving up there.
