Ciampi to the
K2- 2004 expedition team members – you have the admiration of all Italians!
The message of President
Ciampi to all of the Italian K2-2004 expedition team:” The conquest of Everest
is testimony to the rigorous commitment, tenacity and passion of these great
Italian athletes.
In the name of all Italians,
the President of the Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi has sent the minister
Gianni Alemanno, the honorary expedition leader of the K2-2004 team, and
Agostino Da Polenza, the defacto expedition leader, congratulations for the
good results of the expedition.
The following is the official
message from the Italian Head of State: The conquest of Everest is testimony
to the rigorous commitment, tenacity and passion of these great Italian
athletes.
The success of the “K2-2004 –
50 Years Later” expedition, is evidence of the technical abilities of our
champions and of the diligent work of the entire team.
This is a great result which
partners the sporting victory with the scientific project of high scientific
level.
I express to the athletes, to
the technicians and to all those who have participated in this endeavor the
sentiments of admiration of all Italians for this enterprise. Agostino Da
Polenza and the Minister respond: “The message from the President of the
Republic was unexpected but extremely gratifying. The presidency has given us
the tricolor flag of Italy to carry to K2, after we have already carried it to
the top of Everest.
Those who are following our
story and the events step by step, make our athletes feel the affection of all
of Italy for an enterprise which is not only sporting, but also scientific and
cultural. The conquest K2 by this team will give all of the youth of Italy a
group of athletes to look up to and will present our best side to the world.
Thank you, Mr. President!
