The climbers of the K2
2004 team are climbing to camp II at 7800 meters today, as they prepare for
the second attack on the summit. For now the weather conditions are discreet,
with a light snow falling and a calm wind.

May 19, 2004 – 13:00 hours at
base camp (09:00 italian time) The second attempt for the summit has begun. At
this time Soro Dorotei, Silvio Mondinelli, Giulio Maggioni, Marco Confortola,
Michele Compagnoni, Giampaolo Gioia and Marco Forcatura are about to reach
camp II at 7800 meters, in a direct push from ABC. With them is also Enrico
Bernieri, member of the scientific team of the K2 2004 expedition, but also a
mountaineer of proven expertise. Meteorological conditions this morning are
discreet with a light snow falling and calm winds. Meanwhile, Tarcisio Bello
is returning from Camp III, after having effected a first recognizance of the
8000 meter band, in search of the Sandy Irvine's camera.
