04-29-04 - Last April 25th we
arrived to the Chinese Base Camp, and to the Rongbuck monastery, the highest
in altitude in the world, to do the Puja, the ceremony by which we show
reverence to the divinity, the spirits and God through songs, prayers and
rituals. Then we built a camp at 5,700 meters.
Yesterday we went to Advanced
Base Camp, which is at 6400 meters and the temperature is -25 degrees Celsius.
Acclimatization of everybody in the expedition is good.
We have just finished
installing the camp by the break of this day (remember that it will be our
home for the next forty days), and we organized all the material we are going
to need. We also will try to rest because we still can't get rid of the
effects of altitude.
From tomorrow, if the weather
permits, we will start marking the climbing route and we will carry the first
things to camp I. But we will first have a Puja in Advanced Base Camp.

Today, the Dones Everest 2004 expedition has carried materials to the North
Col of Everest, but tents have not been mounted because of the strong wind.
In spite
the intense cold on the mountain, in ABC at 6,440 m. there are temperatures
below -25º Celsius, the members of the expedition are fine and very excited.
On the
next days, we plan to carry more materials and to go down to the Chinese Base
Camp to recover.
