Mt. Everest 2004: Ladies to Everest Update 1

Dones al Everest: They left Barcelona last March 30.  They had a 30 hours long trip to Nepal.  They found out there that their luggage had been sent to Dhaka, in Bangladesh.  They argued with the airline people for three hours, and they were told the airline was going to recover the luggage.  Biman Bangladesh airlines found their luggage and paid compensation for the trouble.

They plan to fly to Lukla on Friday and start their trekking for acclimatization there and around Khumbu valley.  They plan to go back to Katmandu on April 17 for the last preparations before leaving to Tibet. Translation from Catalán by Jorge Rivera

Dispatches

Dones al Everest (Ladies to Everest): Four female climbers from Barcelona (Catalunya, Spain) will climb Everest this spring.  They have chosen the north face for their feat.

The idea for this project emerged after their "Dones al Shisha" expedition in late 2001, when they climbed Shisha Pagma.  This expedition was totally made by women and was awarded by Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya that year.  That one was covered by National Geographic Spain, and so is this next expedition.  The article with their story will be called "Everest 2004, the Female North Face".

The team is made by four ladies from Barcelona:

  • Nuria Balagué i Gomez, born 12-5-1969, a psychologist and mountain instructor.
  • Maite Hernández i Martínez, born 11-17-1972, a Phys-Ed teacher and emergency rescuer.
  • Sílvia Ferrandis i Barrés, born 1-3-1970, a surgeon and volunteer firewoman.
  • Marisa Huguet Mora, born 6-21-1963, an art educator and filmmaker.

Their plan is to climb Everest, via the North Face, during April 2004.  The expedition starts on March 30 and ends on June 10.

The proposed plan is as follows:
