  Mt. Everest 2004: Ladies to Everest

Dones al Everest (Ladies to Everest): Four female climbers from Barcelona (Catalunya, Spain) will climb Everest this spring.  They have chosen the north face for their feat.

The idea for this project emerged after their "Dones al Shisha" expedition in late 2001, when they climbed Shisha Pagma.  This expedition was totally made by women and was awarded by Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya that year.  That one was covered by National Geographic Spain, and so is this next expedition.  The article with their story will be called "Everest 2004, the Female North Face". 

The team is made by four ladies from Barcelona:

  • Nuria Balagué i Gomez, born 12-5-1969, a psychologist and mountain instructor.
  • Maite Hernández i Martínez, born 11-17-1972, a Phys-Ed teacher and emergency rescuer.
  • Sílvia Ferrandis i Barrés, born 1-3-1970, a surgeon and volunteer firewoman.
  • Marisa Huguet Mora, born 6-21-1963, an art educator and filmmaker.

Their plan is to climb Everest, via the North Face, during April 2004.  The expedition starts on March 30 and ends on June 10.

The proposed plan is as follows:

  Paper work and preparation in Katmandu.

  Day 5-25

  Trekking to Everest's South Base Camp from Luclka.

  Flight to Lhasa and final trip to Tibetan Base Camp.

  Day 31-70

  Acclimatization days and mountain ascent.

  Day 71-72

  Return from Base towards the border.

  Day 72

  Arrival to Katmandu.

  Day 73-75

  Free days in Katmandu. Final paper work.

  Day 76

  Departure in commercial flight back to Barcelona.

  Day 77

  Arrival to Catalunya
