IMG Everest Nepal Dispatch #5
Friday, April 9, 2004 - Base Camp
IMG team leader Mark Tucker
phoned in from Everest Base Camp today to bring us up to speed on the IMG team
progress. The high-altitude Sherpas jumped right to work after Puja day and
began carrying loads through the Icefall to Camp 1, which is now almost
completely set up. They also were able to push all the way to Camp 2 and
managed to get one tent set up there to serve as the starting point for what
will become our team's Advance Base Camp. The entire IMG team has begun the
process of acclimatizing by working their way ever higher through the Icefall.
Mark reports that Swee Chiow is the current jack rabbit since he was able to
nearly reach Camp 1 on his last foray uphill.
Mark reports high spirits
despite a few minor health-related setbacks, so the group seems generally
psyched. IMG has arranged for medical advice and support from the HRA
(Himalayan Rescue Association) clinic established at Base Camp. It is great to
have that expertise available to all the climbers right there in camp and IMG
hopes to be able to continue to work with them in the future.
OK, that's all for now!
