Mt Everest 2004: Greeks turned back from the Summit on the South

The Greeks have 2 expeditions to Everest in Spring 2004. You might recall Mike  Styllas aka "The Greek" from our coverage of Dhaulagiri Expedition 2002. Mike lives in Thessaloniki, Greece. He came to the United States to study. In the meantime, he started guiding on Mount Rainier for Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. An accomplished mountaineer, Mike has climbs on Shasta's Hotlum Glacier Headwall, winter ascents of Mount Theilsen, North Sister, Mount Hood, and peaks in the Chugach Range, the SW ridge of Mount Jefferson, 16 Summits of Rainier from four routes, North ridge of Mount Stewart, the Mountaineer's route of Whitney. Not to mention, he has 40 summits of Mount Olympus in Greece. Mountaineering keeps him in shape for ultra distance running. He has participated in Ultra marathons such as the Badwater 135 from Death Valley to Whitney, the Iditasport 130 in Alaska and the Annapurna Mandala Trail 150 miler. He met up with the expedition in Pokhara after attempting the Annapurna Mandala Trail run this March. He now goes for Everest!

Update 5/6/2004: The Greeks arrived early to the South side and are about set for a summit attempt, on the North side, like many expeditions they have only been to 7900 meters.
