Nima
Tashi still alive and climbing |
Press sources about 5 hours ago started reporting the death of a leader of the
Greek Everest Expedition, however, the report is false. They used the name
of a person who was not even on
Everest!
None of the leaders of the Greek
expeditions nor any other member of the Greek expedition on Everest is dead.
This false story must be causing a great stress on the Greek expeditions on
Everest.
As we understand the story, another Greek climber, sadly
died on another mountain...
"It is clarified that all
the members of mountaineering mission Hellas Everest 2004 are very good in
their health as well as that they do not run through no danger. ", according
to the Greek expedition
This is course is not the first time false deaths have been
reported on Mt Everest or other 8000 meter peaks. Kami Sherpa's reported death
on Everest last year was false as well as the 20 deaths reported on Cho
Oyu.
While the origination of
these reports are unknown to EverestNews.com, clearly the reporting of deaths
on Everest without confirmation is unethical, immoral, and just plain
wrong.
We have done several stories on this in the
past, in 2003 before the season we wrote...
Editorial Comment: For those of you following
Everest coverage for the first time, you should know several false deaths have
been reported in the last 4 years by various sources. From Zeddy, to
Jaime Viņals, to Russians climbers, to George last
year; numerous climbers have been reported dead by others when they were
NOT!...
