Juan Diego Amador Rivero Summits Everest!: Canarian Everest Expedition 2004

News from the summit: The Canarias-Everest Expedition has reached today, Monday May 17, the goal they were searching: to crown the summit of the highest peak in the World.

As planned, Diago Amador and Javi Cruz left yesterday, around 9 in the evening (Nepal time) from Camp 4, with the goal of ending this great feat for Canarian sports.  After a hard night of ascent, Javi Cruz was affected by some problems due to mountain sickness around 8,520 meters of altitude, so he had to turn around.  Meanwhile, Diego Amador decided to continue, until he reached the summit of Everest around 8:15 in the morning (Nepal time).

The members of the Expedition are in this moment recovering in Camp 4, and plan to reach Base Camp between May 18 and 19.

Javi and Diego feel satisfied because of the achievement and happy because their effort and dedication in this feat has finally turned in success.  They wish to share this happiness with friends and relatives because the objective has been achieved in less time than what was estimated, and they plan to have an early flight back to the Canary Islands to be with them as soon as possible.

Yesterday, May 13, they reported that after two days of rest in Diamboche, Javier and Juan are going back to Base Camp to prepare the first summit attack by a Canarian expedition.  They have gone up to the Yellow Band and they offer to publish a chronicle of their attempt tomorrow.
