2nd November 2004 - Jeddah: We feel pleasure to announce First High Altitude Expedition for the Gasherbrum-II (8035 m) Northern area Pakistan in 2005.  This will be the first Saudi Expedition on any high altitude peak of the world.  The aims and objective of this expedition is to create awareness among young people about the mountain ecosystems and involve them in meaningful activities using mountainsí environment as an open classroom. It involves Saudi youth in an action-oriented form of learning about the High Altitude climbing, natural environment and its related problems. Eventually it makes them conscious enough to do something practical in the field of mountaineering.  Itíll give them confidence to play an active role in the field of trekking and mountaineering in the Kingdom as well in the world.  Also, this kind of activities contributes to the human spirit and to human endeavors, as freedom sports, with important human and social values.

All expedition members will participate in the three phases of expedition program as high altitude climbing required technical expertise, physical and mental strength.  The first and second phase of the expedition will involve Mountaineering training and evaluation camp at Abbotabad, Pakistan followed by training expedition to Koshak Peak (6200 m) northern area of Pakistan conducted by Adventure Foundation of Pakistan and Island Peak (6189 m) in Nepal.

Launching of these expeditions will not only fulfill the national aspiration of climbing these high peaks but also bring Saudi Arabia prominence and prestige in the filed of mountaineering and adventure at international forum.  This expedition will sport mountain climbing in the Arab World and encourage younger generations to take on such adventures.
