Climber
Sergi Mingote has made a new summit January 8, the "Tharpu Chuli".
The expedition has been
successful. The team has met their expectations: combine adventure and
mountain with culture exchange, to take the name of Catalunya, the language
and culture, in this case, to Nepal. In their original plan, Sergi Mingote
and Albert Barceló (TV cameraman) were supposed to return by January 16.
Finally the return trip has been planed for January 13 at 21 hours. They will
arrive to Terminal B in Prat Airport. Sergi Mingote will meet there with the
media that has previously requested to be there.

Previous Update
Sergi Mingote begins a new expedition through Nepal
December 29, 2004, a trip that will take him from Katmandu to the heart of the
Himalayas: the Sanctuary of Annapurna. The winter ascent of the attractive
summit of Tent Peak (5,663 m), with temperatures near 50 degrees Celsius under
zero, completes the new adventure of the climber. The name of the project is
"Annapurna, the heart of the Himalayas".
Sergi Mingote was borne in
Parets del Valles, Barcelona in 1971. As a climber he distinguished himself in
1998 when he reached the top of Cho Oyu. Three years later, May 23, 2001 he
climbed Everest via the North Side. In 2003 he went back and had another
successful climb, this time from the South Side and making history.
In 2003
Sergi was part of the “Everest50” expedition,
commemorating the 50th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary
and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. Sergi was one of two Catalan
expeditions. However, Catalan was also celebrating the
20th anniversary of a Catalan climber reaching the
summit of Everest. Therefore, Sergi’s very small group:
Sergi, Nima Dorje Sherpa and Thilen Sherpa were
televising the summit and the climb live for Catalonia
TV3.
Nima Dorje Sherpa held the
antenna and Thilen was the cameraman. There is no line of sight from the
summit to base camp and climbing from the South side makes it even more
technically challenging due to a topographical radio shadow. Despite the
technical challenges history was made on May 22, 2003 when TV3 of Catalonia
broadcast from Everest’s South Side throughout Europe Sergi’s successful
summit climb. The connection between Sergi and TV3 lasted 8 minutes while on
the summit of Everest.
