"MOVE THE SCHOOL BY JUNE OR WE WILL MOVE IT FOR YOU." Maoist Activists, Nepal

On a happy day when the school first opened this picture was taken.

You can make a difference !!! You, our readers of EverestNews.com have made a difference and we are proud of YOU.

But now we face a new and bigger challenge.

The Ginette Harrison School (GHS) is under threat. It is the best school, with the best education in the area. But the buildings are rented, and the Maoists are threatening the owner, and the school staff.

SHIVA Charity was about to build a 3000 annexe to the school for the nursery pupils, but the Maoists have said "no".

We are "told" we must build a completely new school about half a kilometre away BY JUNE 2005. No real reasons have been given except that it is close to the government school, (which the charity also helps).

The new building will need at least 12 classrooms, and will cost 13000. PLEASE HELP US! We have the land on which to build a school, thanks to The Festival Medical Services in Bath, and we have 3000 from the Ginette Harrison Memorial Fund for the nursery school annexe.

Please help the charity to raise 10,000 by June so that the 200 children can continue with their education!!

The Maoists are "revolutionaries" who control a large part of the rural area of Nepal. They often target education by closing schools for days, or by abducting teachers and students for "re-training". In the above photo students are marching through Pokhara in protest because the Maoists had closed the schools in the area for three weeks. The banners ask for the Maoists to give them their education back.

The Maoists need stopped from this kind of activity.
