K2 2004 - 50 years later

K2 North: Italian expedition takes part to the first Islamabad-Kashgar flight (some of the group are still making their way to the mountain.)

The adventure of the climbers of K2-2004 aiming to climb K2 from the North side, starts again today. The original plan has just changed and the group is currently flying from Islamabad to Kashgar.

That's the first time a flight links these two towns. The K2-2004 Expedition took off on an almost empty airplane with more than 100 pieces of luggage.

Yesterday the Team had to stay in Islamabad due to the disorders in northern Pakistan, in Gilgit. Chinese Authorities were forced to close the frontier with Pakistan at Kunjerab Pass. This caused the change in the  Expedition schedule.
