K2 2004 - 50 years later

K2 south side: Snow on Camp
Italy
There was an abundant
snowfall on the K2 south side base camp overnight. Climbing operations for
today are static and we will dedicate ourselves to the development of
structural and logistics plans
Tuesday June 8, - Base Camp
South Side: There was a huge snowfall overnight and this morning. The plan to
return to the new higher camp has been postponed and we will instead attempt
to prepare the photovoltaic (battery charge system?) to be able to recharge
the batteries of the tv cameras and photographic cameras.
Our computer does not work
well in the cold so we set up a box with a gas lamp inside upon which we set
the portable computer so as to keep it operating at the proper temperature.
In any case, it takes about l hour to send one photograph from satellite phone
which drops the connection to computer operating system which was lost on the
glacier.
It is a day for climbers ala
Kurt Diemberger, real mountain animals, who do not much bother with problems
like materials, clothing or the like. Men who don’t spend much time
complaining, but take all with a grain of salt and in a positive manner. Ciao,
Mauri
