K2 2004 - 50 years later

K2 North: We have reached a quota of 7000 meters!  - July 27, 2004 

The challenge K2 2004 continues! On the north face, heavy snow notwithstanding on the high traverses, our team has braved the difficult Spigolo (North Corner?) route and reached 7000 meters.

We have just descended from camp II at 6650 meters.  Nives, Romano and Luca were able to climb to 7000 meters.  Now all are at base camp for a pause (rest). 

Next week we go back up for our attempt on the summit.  At present, there is still a lot of snow, which does not firm up sufficiently on the ridge. Mario Panzeri
