K2 2004 - 50 years later

K2 2004: Camp Italy completed
in record time - We only needed a day and a half of good steady work at 5000
m. to properly set up the general layout of the rest of Camp Italy. Around
the pyramid tent there are now 10 other smaller tents, setting the boundaries
of what will serve as base camp for team K2 2004.
A warm and sunny day: The
snow has begun to melt, and rather rapidly, in fact! The work at base camp
continues with alacrity. We have set up 10 tents to mark the boundaries of
our camp before the now imminent arrival of other expeditions
We then stabilized with rocks
and boulders the foundations of the Camp Italy Pyramid: One would not think
so, but at 5000 meters moving rock and making dry walls is not an easy task!
We are planning to go up to
our predetermined advanced base camp site tomorrow to begin setting up that
camp by placing two small tents and bringing up some equipment and materials.
As for the rest, everything proceeds here in the maximum tranquility.
