K2 2004 - 50 years later

K2 South – Wind and Snow -
July 22, 2004 – 13:00 hours local time (10:00 Italian time)
The weather has worsened in
the past few hours at K2. Presently it is snowing profusely and the wind has
picked up considerable strength.
A few minutes ago Adriano
Greco called in on the radio to let us know he had reached camp II.
“The wind is extremely strong
and the tents are squashed by the weight of the snow, but the damage is not
serious,” reports the climber from Valtellina. “Ugo Giacomelli is just a
little ways behind me. I will await here for him and our other climbers, then
we will prepare to spend the night, hoping for the predicted weather
improvements”
