K2 North Side – Recognizance at the deposit camp
On the north side of the mountain, like on the south, we are
awaiting the improvement of meteorological conditions. It is predicted that
good weather should arrive by Wednesday of this week. We made a brief
recognizance trip to the deposit camp at the base of the north face to verify
the status of the tents.
This morning, like every morning, a covering of fresh snow
was deposited on the tents of K2 North side base camp. “It is the norm, we
would be surprised of the opposite!” exclaims Michele Comi, the climber
responsible for the coordination of the scientific research for the team.
“Like the team on the south side of the mountain, we are anxiously awaiting
the good weather window that should arrive by Wednesday!”
“This morning, with Daniele Bernasconi in the lead, Agostino
Cittadini and Paolo Minisini, the doctor who accompanied us for a part of the
climb, we went up to the deposit camp. There was a rather strong wind which
was erasing our tracks as we tried to open a new trail”.
“It was a walk of about an hour and a half and we went from
just wearing our shirts, to our windbreakers,” added Daniele Bernasconi, “The
scope of “the excursion” was to verify the status of the tents and the
equipment."
