K2 South: Silvio Mondinelli at the "lower" camp III

Base camp, 11.00 a.m. "Gnaro" has quickly reached the "lower" camp III and is waiting for his companions to go on, up to the “higher” camp III.

July, 8th 2004: At 11.00 a.m. (base camp time), Silvio “Gnaro” Mondinelli got in touch by radio with Agostino Da Polenza, the expedition leader, confirming to have reached the "lower" camp III at about 7350 m. a.s.l.

“Gnaro” is now still at this altitude, waiting for his companions’ arrival. They have been outdistanced of about an hour during the ascent. When the group will join together, the mountaineers will try to climb a few hundred of meters more, reaching the altitude of the “higher” camp III, at 7600 meters.
