K2 South: delayed the attempt to reach camp III
Yesterday our climbers have gone up directly from the base
camp to camp II, 6650 m. Today they had to give up the attempt to reach and
set up camp III (over 7500 m) beacause of the bad weather.
July, 2nd 2004 - K2 South base camp
Yesterday morning Silvio Mondinelli, Alex Busca and Karl Unterkircher have
gone up directly to camp II (6650 m); Giuliano De Marchi, Nadia Tiraboschi and
Massimo Farina joined them from camp I.
“Going up was a bit hard because of the weight we were carrying up” said
“Gnaro” Mondinelli “but the Everest acclimatization is working very well”.
Adriano Greco and the three climbers from Valtellina, that during the past
days have restored the tents of camp I (half-destroyed by an avalache) and set
up camp I, went back to the base camp.
Today, “Gnaro”, Alex and Karl had to give up the attempt to reach and set up
camp III (over 7500 m) because of the bad weather. So, they are turning back
to the base camp.
At the base camp, logistic systems and communication structure are being
reorganized. Yesterday arrived 26 tanks of those that had been left behind and
today should arrive as many. The communication tent inside Casa Italia has
been set up and so the canteen.
