K2 2004 - 50 years later
Snow at K2 Base camp
Southside: The bad weather is not only at the north side camp, but also the
camp on the south side of the mountain and those climbers who arrived in three
squads, beginning on the 1st, 13th, and 21st of June.
K2-South: The bad weather
that has touched K2-North is also at K2-South.
A group of climbers departed
heading up to camp 1 which seems particularly crowded in this period, with at
least 15 tents currently on site from different expeditions. Due to some
unusually warm weather, however, there have been several avalanches which have
displaced some of the fixed previously set on the mountain.
No worries for our climbers
who safely reached base camp which is set up in a particularly safe zone, at
some distance from the avalanche risk. The danger is now only during actual
climbing situations up and down the mountain.
We have finally placed the
radio-computer tent, which is now autonomous thanks to a photoelectric set-up
which has been installed.
