K2 2004: K2 North Side: without the camels, we proceed to carry on our backs! :  Italian expedition Everest/K2 2004 expedition

K2 2004 - 50 years later

K2 North Side: without the camels, we proceed to carry on our backs!

Unable to use the computers, Michele Comi nonetheless contacted us with the latest news. Having reached the glacier on K2  north, it is now farewell to the camels, who end their portage service here. These are the most recent words of our climbers currently headed towards K2 north side base camp.  If up to now we have been receiving images which, with some imagination, could have been from the African deserts, from now on the landscape will definitely begin to look like that of a high altitude climb.  The camels have in fact terminated their service as our people have arrived at the base of the K2 glacier. Today they will reach an intermediate camp, and then on to base camp.

These will be days of hard work since they will have to transport about 2 and 1/2 tons of materials and equipment from the intermediate camp up to the base camp.  To make matters worse, the weather is uncooperative

Ciao Danieli
