Stuart Peacock K2 & Broad Peak Expedition 2004 Dispatch 3 leaving for Skardu

            Today we leave for Skardu, unfortunately we couldn't get a flight there, so we are having to travel by road.

Hushe Treks will first pick up the Sherpas from the Airport and then the kit and LO from the Regency Hotel and finally us.

We will then have a 12 hour drive from Islamabad to Chilas, where we will be staying at the Chilas Inn. From there we will have an 8 hour drive to Skardu. Thankfully we will be driving in a reasonably spacey van with air conditioning so we're hoping the journey will not be too taxing.

Yesterday we had a sight seeing tour of Rawlapindi and Islamabad. Pindi is much more how I imagined Pakistan would be, similar to Kathmandu. Islamabad is the new Metropolitan town in comparison.

Last night we checked the EPI Gas and then went to the Brit Club in the British Enclave, not far from the hotel. Normally you need to get a pass from the embassy, however we struck lucky. The food & beer was good and cheap, so the no drinking policy finally broke last night. Regards, Stu.
